GETTING THE LEFT AND MIDDLE RIGHT

A Primer On What It Means To Be Liberal, Moderate Independent, And Right-Wing,

Correcting The Misleading And Confusion Out There

The Bush/Limbaugh/Hannity right spends more time misdefining what "liberal" or "lefty" means than they do talking about what they think or do themselves.  In their manipulative, anti-American world, "liberal" or "lefty" are used to assail anything or anyone they disagree with - whether these people are moderate, liberal, or conservatives who just disagree with the Bush/Limbaughians.  It is the basic, fascistic, "Either you are completely lockstep with us, or you are against us," nonsense they love so much.

The media in general doesn't help at all.  Even the "mainstream" media has moved so far to the right that the news has become a battle of, sounding something like a Jim Carey movie, right-wing and right-winger.  The stations that are merely right-wing biased are assailed as liberal by the Limbaugh/Hannity end of the spectrum.  As a result, the definitions of liberal, moderate independent, and conservative have gotten very confused in many people's minds.

So, we at The Moderate Independent thought it was time to set things straight.  Here is a basic primer to remind everyone of what a "liberal" or "lefty" truly is, what a moderate independent is, and what the right wing stands for.  You might want to mark down how many times you fall into each column, and so determine which of the three you truly are, or perhaps that you are - like most people - an independent mix of all three.

LEFTY

Moderate Independent

RIGHT-WING

Foreign policy

Oppose war period

War if necessary

War for gain

Unilateral disarm nukes

Keep them babies

Keep them babies

Financial aid to poor countries in need

Some help to poor countries, but we are not welfare for the world

Some help to poor countries

No financial aid for butcherous dictators, it is wrong

No financial aid to butcherous dictators, it is wrong and just makes things worse

Finance dictators we prefer

Economy

Socialism/communism

Capitalism with enough regulation

Unchecked capitalism

Welfare/social bens to all in need, even illegal immigrants

I don’t work to support lazy people and illegals, but we must maintain a social safety net for those truly in need

I don’t work to support lazy people. No viable safety vet for good people truly in need

Share the wealth via high taxes on rich or wage controls distribute wealth equally to all

Those more capable or who work better deserve more/tax everyone equally to cover needs

Create loopholes so the wealthy pay a lower percent in tax than everyone else

Corporations should be subsidized so they can have the latest anti-pollution equip

Corps. cry wolf, say they can’t upgrade but give Dick Cheney 20 million to quit his job.  Make corps upgrade, some subsidy help

Let corps keep polluting to keep stocks/profits/CEO bonuses high

Fair working conditions should be mandated by gov’t

Working conditions should be indicated on labels, on products, letting people decide if they care

Don’t regulate, let corps work us 24/7 for peanut pay in horrible working conditions

Religion

Religion is a bad thing and should be outlawed

Religion is a good thing, but not when gov’t gets its hands on it

Our particular brand of religion should be forced down everyone else’s throat

No “one nation, under God” in pledge

“One nation, under God” is fine, just don’t pretend it was ancient American tradition – it was inserted in 1954 by Eisenhower

“One nation, under Jesus” should be required by all

Education

Free equal public education is a right

Free, equal public education keeps crime low, society strong

Free equal public education threatens our hold on money – only rich people should have access to decent schools

Law

Good people – due to bad life circumstances - sometimes do bad things, and should receive treatment

No excuses. Someone does something bad, lock ‘em up. But don’t have stupid laws that make people criminals for no good reason, like the 21 year old drinking age, speed limits, and seat belt laws

If they don’t act as we feel a person should act, lock ‘em up

Values

Smoke dope, sleeping around is natural for men and women

Dope makes you stupid and lazy, that’s why they call it dope – but it shouldn’t be a crime. Sleeping around makes a woman a whore and a man a carrier

Smoking dope is a sin and a crime.  Sleeping around is a sin

The Arts

The gov’t should fund the arts

The arts should be independent - independently funded and independent to say and to do as they please

The arts should be censored and governed but not funded

To say homosexuals dominate the arts is anti-gay

Homosexuals dominate the arts and assert a real bias, especially against white male heterosexuals

The arts are a haven of hedonism, homosexuality, and amorality

Favorite Literature

Marx

Playboy

Mein Kopf

Favorite Leader

Lenin

Thomas Jefferson

Stalin

Lastly

People are wonderful and good

Hi, we are The Moderate Independent.

Liberals are evil and un-American, and to blame for everything
