SEPTEMBER 3, 2003 –
Sure, we've all
heard and read by now the criticism of FOX News. But FOX is just one
gun Australian-born Rupert Murdoch is using in his assault on
American values.
To
be sure, FOX News is the most obvious offender. As Judge Denny Chin
recently commented in regard to FOX's lawsuit against Al Franken,
“It is ironic that a media company that should be seeking to
protect the First Amendment is seeking to undermine it.”
But
most people ignore the fact that Rupert "Let this foreigner tell you
what good American's think" Murdoch also owns many media holdings around the world, and he uses
each of these to further his anti-American crusade.
Take
the case of Murdoch-owned BSkyB TV in Britain. Just last week, this
Murdoch station launched an all out assault on the BBC for, if you
can imagine, spending too much money on American programming.
"I
really cannot see why public money is being diverted to those poor
struggling Hollywood studios in this way,” said BSkyB chief
executive, Tony Ball. “BBC resources should be redeployed to
commission more independently produced UK programming."
Wait
a second, wasn’t this the same guy whose American stations have
waving American flags on them 24 hours a day? Isn’t this the same
FOX Network that defines American patriotism and helps us turn
against any who aren’t truly pro-America?
It’s
called pandering to your audience whoever they are and playing
people against each other.
He
buys a station here in America and pretends it’s pro-America, has it
tell us we’re the best because that sells, plays us against other
countries because it breeds loyalty. Then, he buys a station in one
of those other countries, like
Britain,
has that station tell them they are the best because that sells –
and then starts playing them against whichever country will serve
his purpose at the moment. If he determines anti-American talk will
sell to Britons, he starts attacking the very country his FOX News claims to speak for.
If he cares so much about America, why does he have his British station, BSkyB, railing
against the BBC for spending money on American products? In
particular, BSkyB went through the roof when the BBC sent $ 16
million our way to buy the nights to the Hollywood-made Harry
Potter. Then his BSkyB TV went on to complain about all that British
money being sent to us horrible Americans in general.
He
plays us against the world, the world against us, industry interests
against things like clean air. In the end, what truly is the agenda
of Australian-born Rupert Murdoch and his Chinese wife Wendy Deng?
Simple. To play everyone against everyone else for the benefit of no
one but multi-billionaire tycoon Rupert Murdoch and his bride.
Even
better, he not only attacks America with his British TV station, but
other Britons that attempt to exercise free speech - even the BBC.
As the BBC put it, Murdoch has waged a “long and hostile campaign
against the BBC.” Sound familiar, Murdoch using his network
holdings to try and squelch free speech? It’s not just here against
Franken, but in
Britain
as well. His assault on free speech and free press is world-wide. But truly, Murdoch doesn't care about free speech or anything else - he just uses any means to try and get more money for himself, whether by shutting up Franken's book that might hurt his Fox ratings, or attacking the BBC - not because he thinks Britons shouldn't by American programming, but because he wants his station, BSkyB, to be the one getting the programs, which get great ratings. Attacking free speech as part of a hypocritical ploy to hurt a competitor - standard procedure for "I am the only one who knows American values" Murdoch.
In
summary, we can simply say this: If FOX News were pro-American, it
would be assailing Murdoch and BSkyB TV for telling Britons not to
purchase American products. But FOX isn't; in fact, it is the FOX
owner whose station is preaching anti-Americanism over there. On the
other hand, The Moderate Independent is assailing BSkyB for its
anti-American, anti-free speech tirade. So you tell me, which news
source is the true voice of America? |
