ABSURDITY TAKEN SO FAR IT HAS BECOME ASSININITY

President Bush – Not Satisfied To Just Have Puppet Station FOX News, All Of Talk Radio, And Most National Newspapers As Nothing But Right-Wing Puppet – Lashes Out At The Few Voices That Still Report Facts And Not Just What He Wants Them To Say

 by Betsy R. Vasquez

OCTOBER 14, 2003 – You would expect at this point if any party would be lashing out against the media it would be the Democratic Party.  They have been battered day after day by unabashedly one-sided propaganda programming.  But, defying all reality, decency, and basic American values, President Bush has initiated a campaign to attack the few voices that aren’t just unabashed right-wing propagandists.

If you ever questioned whether or not President Bush was a democracy-loving man, you just had your question answered.

Not only isn’t the President upset that one-sided propaganda stations have taken over all of AM radio and moved in on TV.  Any America-loving President would remind the nation that that is how the former Soviet Union used to operate, squelching free speech and coming up with puppet news outlets, like the infamous Pravda, which existed solely to push the Communist Party line.

But not only doesn’t President Bush condemn FOX News and Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity et. al, not only does he, in fact, act as proponent, regularly sending members of his administration onto these shows – using them like any Soviet Premiere would have.  No, this isn’t even enough for President Bush.  Today he made clear he wants to do away with all honest and accurate reporting altogether, as he launched an all out assault on what little remains of the free press.

Yes, President Bush is making the rounds directly to regional media outlets, complaining that the mainstream media has used some imaginary "filter," as the President called it, to unfairly, of course, try and make the war seem worse than it is - I guess the underlying assertion being that the press is doing this because it is out to get the President. Why else would they filter? No, the President doesn't annunciate this last part, which clearly shows that even he realizes the direct accusation would just be too clearly idiotic - "It's the media, they don't like me," - and so he says it indirectly.

It was always absurd, to anyone who knows what the word “liberal” means, the way the Republicans assailed the corporate-owned-and-operated media as being left-wing biased.  These corporate entities have always operated in ways that put profit before fact and corporate interests before things liberals care about, like the environment, worker’s rights, etc.

In particular, anyone who watched the war coverage saw clearly that there was not a single hint of the pacifism that defines liberalism to be found anywhere in the press – mainstream or otherwise.

But this new breed of Bush/Limbaugh Republican is truly deranged, so full of hatred and intolerance that they can’t bear to let any voice out there they says anything they don’t like.  Truly, this is all based on the reality, as we pointed out in this article (www.moderateindependent.com/v1i12things.htm), that the only thing that holds the Republican Party together is their game of blame and lie.  Their policies – as with the current Iraq situation – are so inept and asinine that they fail miserably.  Then, the Republicans start the blame and lie, blaming either the Democrats or the media for their failure.

Well, there are no Democrats left in control of anything, and the media is all either middle-right or ultra-right leaning, so what does President Bush do to cover his butt?  He can’t blame Congress, as he would like to, because that is all Republican now.  He can’t blame President Clinton, because this is clearly his mess.

So, in true hateful, un-American, cowardly style – maintaining his streak of never, ever taking responsibility for anything - he blames, somehow, the fact that the media reports when soldiers die.  Better, he believes, they should forget the war is not over, like they have done with Afghanistan – didn’t they see his landing in that flight suit in front of a sign that said ‘Mission Accomplished’?  Don’t they get that means they should move on to other topics?

Even better, the troops in Iraq have now been sucked into this PR campaign.  A form letter was circulated to members of the 4th Infantry, which contained a press release saying things are going wonderfully and perfectly.  11 exact copies were sent to 11 different newspapers, each purported to be original letters written, in a supposed heartfelt manner, by troops stationed in Iraq.

This crosses the line of hateful and deranged and becomes flat-out cruel, evil, and, yes, illegal – US Troops are not to be used for PR purposes while on a mission.

But law doesn’t stop President Bush in his quest to “blame and lie.”  Nor does reality – the reality that the media is dominated by right-wing puppets, the reality that the war in Iraq is not over, the post-war part not well planned, that 1, 2, or 3 soldiers are being killed every single day,  that we are spending far over $1 billion a week.

No.  The problem is the media should be saying everything is going perfectly, that, as the President said, as reported by ABC, “We had a strategy from the beginning,” and that it is a perfect strategy and that it is being carried out perfectly.

And just to show what he is truly made of, he became belligerent, lying addict George during one of his interviews yesterday.  Asked if he misled the nation about WMD’s, the President simply, scoldingly, pretended he never said what he said.  Yes, he flat-out stated that he never said, nor implied, that Saddam had WMD’s and that was why we needed to go to war.

Don’t believe me?  He would never say something so clearly dishonest?

Look at the quote, as reported by ABC News: "Let's get the words right. I said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and he used them. Which he did. And second I said he was a gathering threat. And that's an important distinction. ..."

Look at the little coke addict-type liar in action.  Let’s get the words right?  Yes, Georgie, let’s do it.  You said, repeatedly, Saddam had massive stock piles of anthrax, chemical weapons, and was on the verge of having nuclear weapons.

He has been telling the same lies so frequently now he thinks the post-war lies he has been telling are what he said before the war.  The lie is that all he ever said the problem was with WMD’s was that back in the 80’s, Saddam used them - during and after which, as we all know, his father and President Reagan continued to consider Saddam an ally and send our tax payer dollars to him.  President Bush knows he didn’t say nor mean that we should go to war – had to rush, couldn’t even wait for the UN – because of this event back in 1988.  It is bull, but he seems to be so delusional that he can’t even tell his own lies from the truth.

And so, our President is out on a tour assailing the media “filter” that is reporting some actual facts and not just pro-Bush propaganda.  For any Bush-supporters who wonder why the President is so unpopular now, it is time for you to join the rest of us in dealing with the simple reality:  our President is a heinously amoral constant liar.

The biggest question for us at The Moderate Independent, though, is how can the Democratic Party be so pathetic and useless that still, with the media being but a right-wing propaganda tool at this point, they haven’t even begun to make a campaign against it yet.  No, the Republicans lead the fight – based on lies – and the Democrats do nothing – no matter how urgent the need for action is.

No wonder we remain Moderate Independents.
