DECEMBER 16, 2003 – When you
first hear this slogan, it sounds like someone is making fun of the
FOX News Network and Republicans, doesn't it? It sounds like a
sarcastic moderate or liberal mocking the Australian/Chinese-owned
FOX right-wing puppet station and the bigoted right-wing
Bush/Limbaugh Republicans who watch it.
However, this slogan is for real.
And no, it is not FOX News using it in an upcoming advertising
campaign (which may have started in some areas already.)
So, what station would run such a slogan
mocking the usual expectation of the media being "balanced" and
unbiased?
Actually, it is a FOX network.
The sister station of FOX News, FOX Sports Net, is currently
undertaking a massive ad campaign which will use the slogan, "We're
biased, just like you."
Is this Rupert Murdoch showing he is
unable to hide behind the lie any longer? He had to shout it
out loudly somewhere - that every single "news" source he owns, like
FOX and the New York Post - are nothing but bigoted rags that
cultivate a bigoted audience, making their ratings and fortune by
making it okay to be a hate monger?
Or maybe it is even more vindictive than
that.
Rupert hears the large chorus of people
calling his hate-preaching, one-party promoting FOX puppet-news
station the biased, useless trash that it is. He knows people
want nothing more than for ol' Rupert to just come out and admit it,
to say, "Ok, you're right. My stations are biased and
bigoted." He knows the decent public would love nothing more
than for him to come out and say plainly, "The idea of FOX News is
to make a lone safe haven for bigots to be bigots, openly.
Hate mongering bigots are a large, unspoken for audience, and I am
cornering the market by giving them the one-sided, hate-mongering
nonsense they crave."
So, just to further taunt all of the
people who write books about his biased network and send e-mails and
letters and call in, he seems to have decided to just taunt them by
coming out and saying, "We're biased, just like you," except that by
doing it via his sports station, no one can condemn him for it or
relate it to his FOX News. You see, there is nothing wrong
with a sports network being biased toward the home team - people
love it in fact.
As they do with one-side biased news.
Whether Australian-born Rupert Murdoch and his Chinese-born wife
Wendy Deng - whose network proclaims to speak for good Americans -
meant this slogan as a taunting jibe, or just accidentally spelled
out their simple formula (i.e. our stations are biased because it
gets ratings,) there is clearly more than just simple irony in the
fact that the slogan that describes all of the Murdochs' media
holdings and their marketing strategy, "We're biased, just like
you," will be running on one of their networks.
For those of you who like to see actual
truth at some point, you can have your vindication after all.
Just wait until one of those ads come on your local FOX Sports Net
affiliate, and then go up to the TV and put your finger over the
part of the screen that reads, "Sports." Then, at last, you
can finally have that visual you should have been seeing all along,
"FOX... Net, We're biased, just like you."
In fact, you might want to keep another
finger over the word "you" at the end of that sentence, and instead
fill in verbally, "We biased, just like..." the ballless cowards who
cling to the childishly dishonest Australian/Chinese-owned puppet
station that claims to speak for real Americans, like Linus from the
Charlie Brown comic strip clings to his little baby blanket.
