NOVEMBER 1, 2004 – It's been a long time coming. For four years, over half the nation has been fuming and waiting for this moment. For four years they've swallowed their fury as a President who didn't win his election looked at poisonously high mercury levels in our fish and decided to let companies put out more mercury from their smokestacks; as this unqualified alcoholic whose brother had stolen the election for him fell asleep on the job while terrorists had the greatest success they ever had on American soil; while a man who is afraid to even testify before Congress without his vice president by his side because he is too incompetent to coherently respond to questions lied our nation into an unnecessary war; as he bankrupted our coffers; as he drove states into debts that caused our college tuitions to go up; as gas prices have broken unthinkable record after unthinkable record, without plan or reaction of any sort on his part; as our Constitutional guarantees of protection against summary imprisonment got easily discarded; as looming crises, such as global warming, obesity, the re-emergence of a dangerous and undemocratic Russia, the building of more nukes by North Korea, have gone entirely undealtwith; and, most infuriatingly, with the entire non-Moderate Independent playing along, treating him as if he is not the compulsive, constant liar he is; as if we did not see what we really saw in the debates, a truly incompetent puppet; as they accepted that he never held press conferences; as a flat-out propaganda network grew into prominence with the aid of this man's administration's frequent appearances; and as our nation slaughtered 100,000 innocent civilians who resided in a nation that never attacked us. For four years, this more than half of the nation not only sat with the un-American way their vote was overturned, but were labeled un-American for pointing out that the President was a liar; were labeled unpatriotic for pointing out the President's policies were the wrong ones; were told they threatened their nation and stood against our soldiers if they stood up for the nation and the proper use of its troops. They were told in the next election they would be outfunded by the Bush campaign; that the President would beat any challenger because he was trusted to fight his War On Terror; and that all of their potential candidates were but loser dwarfs who stood no chance of claiming America back as the great, respected, prosperous democracy it had been. And for four years, they set out to ensure that this would not be the case. Their anger and love of their nation set them out on a journey that would lead them to create a new type of political campaign that, through Dean-pioneered use of the web, would allow them to not only compete with the man who unfairly took the last election, but outraise him; they would channel their energy into activist organizations that took the useless non-M/I media on and gave a voice to the more than half a nation that had been voiceless; they would produce a whole world of websites and a radio network and produce movies that broke all records of movies made before. The media said none of these things would happen. And they were dead wrong. They would cease their usual infighting and unite behind a candidate who is the most uniquely qualified man in the nation, an experienced, voluntary warrior; a distinguished crime fighter; a scholar with decades of knowledge and understanding of domestic and world issues only outweighed by his courage and love of country. They would bring the best of of their "dwarfs," the tech savvy, bold-speak of Dean; the fired-up, half-former-Republican ground troops of General Clark's army; the sunny message of Edwards; the union base of Gephardt; the respect for values of Lieberman; and the stature, charisma, experience, and intelligence of their chosen one, Senator John Kerry. And the non-M/I media would look at all this and say the man they chose was nothing but unlikable and aloof. They would say he is a barely a match for the installed one. At best all he could hope for was to hold his own in the debates, because the other guy was a tough and talented one. The debates would be close, a tough battle, a draw or Bush victory. And they were dead wrong. This more than half of America would organize all of this into a mechanism that would work tirelessly for two years to ensure everyone who wanted to be registered was registered, everyone who wanted to vote would have their vote counted; they would set out in unprecedented fashion by busses and planes to swing states, sharing resources where they were needed most, one focused army of Americans spanned out across the entire nation. From heavily Republican areas of Florida to staunchly GOP-dominated areas of Virginia, there would be more lawn signs for their guy than the installed pretender. There would be record numbers of newly registered voters joining their ranks. And the non-M/I media would tell them that their passion does not exist, that the newly registered voters won't bother to vote, that the polls that were all wrong last election are not wrong this time, that, no matter what they try or do, the man they have chosen will always end up just slightly on top, just a nudge ahead, no matter what. Like last time in Florida. They would base their polls on the plain assertion that this more than half of America is not actually as fired up as they've heard; that their anger will not turn into action; that the millions who've joined their ranks don't actually exist and won't appear on election day. As with the first debate, when the nation, against all predictions, saw the usurper Bush get shellacked and were faced with the simple reality that the emperor really had no clothes, so the media will be exposed as butt naked farce. They are trying their best to say the obvious reality is not reality, to keep their chosen storyline of the installed one on top a reality, believing their fictitious reporting will someone change simple reality. But, as was the case during the debates, reality will have its say. And all those millions, who have done the work that needed to be done, who have been joined in their battle by millions of fresh new troops, who will rest at nothing until they have successfully defended their nation from those who seek to dismantle the democracy, will have their say, and they will have their day. And that day is today. For four years America has been held prisoner, the majority of the nation kept as prisoners of war. Today, the doors of that prison will be blown open, the structure torn down, as a flood of true Americans makes clear that no media manipulation, not attempts at vote rigging, no lies or use of our troops as campaign pawns will stand between America and its destiny as a moral bastion of hope and guidance for the rest of the world. Today, the Bush/Limbaughian coup that has driven America into bankruptcy of reputation, money, and soul will be demolished massively. Today, the liars, the cheaters, and the media that enabled them will get their due. Let the landslide begin. |
