NOVEMBER 11, 2004 – Confirming what our Betsy Vasquez wrote yesterday in her story , here is a story from Cleveland reporting that John Kerry has his lawyers hot on the case. See, we told you you could relax, and that Kerry was simply, as he said he would with Iraq, choosing a third smarter, more subtle, more effective way of dealing with the situation, making it a no lose endeavor for him. (Read Besty’s story above if you missed it for more details on this.) Also, the latest from the non-M/I media’s rock star of the moment, Keith (not Ken) Olbermann. It seems the third partiers, Nader and the Green Party, are going to bat for America. They are initiating recounts in Ohio and New Hampshire, saving face for Kerry and integrity for the nation. By the way, they may need your help. As Olbermann reports: “The central issue in both potential recounts appears to be money. Cobb, whose presence on the ballot in all 50 states is probably coming to your attention only as you read this, said in an interview with the Pacifica station in Los Angeles, KPFK, that a recount would cost the Greens around $110,000, on a basis of approximately $10 per precinct. As you’d probably guess, Mr. Cobb’s doesn’t have the money lying around— but as a presidential candidate, he does have the right.” Nader is facing the same issue in New Hampshire. Anyone care to contact the Green party or Nader and suggest they set up a fund – we bet it would be filled in no time. There is also a massive twist in Ohio. The county of Warren, which had done its recount in secret claiming the FBI had warned them they had to, that they were under terrorist threat… well, their alibi has crumbled. As Olbermann reports: “The FBI did not notify anyone in Warren County of any specific terrorist threat to Warren County before Election Day,” FBI spokesman Michael Brooks told Enquirer reporters Erica Solvig and Dan Horn.” Oops. One additional thing from Olbermann, which confirms a previous story our Betsy V. ran about the media bias: “It has all even come to the attention of the blithe agitator of the far right, Ann Coulter, who yesterday not only wrote of the election irregularities but, I’m proud to say, slimed and misquoted me. “In a major report on ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann’ last Monday,” my fellow Cornell alum writes, “Olbermann revealed that Bush’s win in Florida— and thus the election—was ‘attributable largely to largely Democratic districts suddenly switching sides and all voting for Mr. Bush at the same time’!” “It made for fascinating reading, because it made me think for a moment that I had been on television while in a coma. I couldn’t recall making such a broadly ridiculous remark— and it turns out I didn’t. Ms. Coulter, living up to her usual standards which many of us in the Alumni Association nightly pray she didn’t learn at the university, took a quote from a transcript of the November 8th show completely out of context, and entirely twisted its meaning.” Now, Rather gets one story wrong, very likely unwittingly, and there were calls all over the non-M/I media for his resignation. He had his show thrown off of a radio station in his home town. And CBS took a massive drubbing. Now, Coulter does this, and what? Hello? Anybody out there in the non-M/I media incensed by a Fox News regular, top published author being caught in a massive, intentional lie? Hey, all you guys that wrote 100 articles detailing any slight error in Michael Moore’s work, care to write 100 articles about this propagandist being caught red handed? Anyone calling for Fox to stop using her, for bookstores to pull her book? Nope. Just taken in stride. Right-wing liars are an accepted main of the non-M/I media. All you people out there who still echo the lie that the media is liberal bias, you have your reality check once again. As for Olbermann’s opinion on it, he tells M/I, “Well, Coulter, without my help, has sunk from a syndicated newspaper column to periodic blogs... the Brent Bozell crowd's been after me since 1997 and they haven't put a dent.” And proving again he is the current top gun when it comes to covering this mess, he assured us, “We were already planning to lead with Kerry/Ohio tonight...” So be sure to tune in to his show. |
