MARCH 29, 2005 –
Let's remind organizations like Moveon.org about reality:
Screencap from
CNN
Being a specially called session, a
two-thirds majority was required to pass the Schiavo bill.
There were 261 members present, so 175 yea votes were needed to pass
it. The Republicans were 19 short. Even a handful of
Democratic defectors wouldn't have helped. But the reality was
that about as many Democrats voted for the bill as against it - if the Democrats
actually stood in opposition to the abandonment of our Constitution,
it couldn't have happened.
So how are Moveon.org and numerous other
Democratic organizations supposed to maintain any credibility when
they put out e-mails like this one from Moveon:
"On Sunday, Tom
DeLay and Bill Frist, the Republican congressional leaders, convened
an emergency meeting of Congress to pass a bill that that interferes
with the Terri Schiavo tragedy. And although in five years no other
issue has prompted President Bush to return to Washington during a
vacation—including the tsunami—Bush flew back from his ranch in
Texas to sign it.[1]
"Americans can have
different personal opinions about what should happen to Terri
Schiavo—life is precious, and this case raises some important
ethical questions. But we can all agree that that's what the courts
are for: to make the call in difficult circumstances. That's why
Congress' interference is such an ugly and shameful incident of
political grandstanding. There's no legislative purpose here, just a
blatant attempt to play politics with someone's life.
"We need to tell
the Republican leaders in Congress that this kind of pandering and
demagoguery will not stand. Will you sign our urgent petition to
Congress to tell them they must stop using one person's tragedy for
their own political gain, and move on to the important business
facing our country?"
It is as if in the
nation's time of utmost need the Democrats felt the need to ensure
the nation they are nothing but lying political spinners themselves.
Just to refresh, it
was the Dems who voted almost as many for the bankruptcy legislation
as against it (see:
THE FRAUD THAT IS THE SOCIAL SECURITY DEBATE... AND THE DEMOCRATIC
PARTY,)
and it was the Democrats who made made the destruction of our
Constitution possible in the Schiavo fiasco. (see:
THE DAY OUR DEMOCRACY ENDED.)
The Democrats just
don't get it - they keep trying to figure out where to stand or what
to say, when America keeps telling them, "God damn it, just stand up
for what you say you do!" And this is not speculation, that
Democrats who didn't agree with this case simply caved in like
pansies because they thought it would serve them politically.
Look at the quotes in this article from
CNN:
"Rep. Jose Serrano, D-New York, a
veteran of the civil rights movement who opposes government
involvement in such personal decisions as abortion, found himself
voting for the bill.
"He has trouble explaining why,
recounting that he spent Sunday being angry at the leaders of both
parties for letting the bill come to the floor for a vote while at
the same time feeling sympathy for the family he saw on
television.
"I felt that no matter how I voted, a
lot of people would think that I voted the wrong way..."
Need any clearer statement of how this
breed of Democrats operate, just trying to figure out which way to
vote is politically best, not deciding based on principle.
"Now Serrano wonders who will suffer
more at the polls, Democrats who voted "yes," or lawmakers who
didn't show up."
Yes, the polls are what matter, not our
nation or Constitution, at least according to this part of the
Democratic party.
Notice where it says in the second
paragraph of the above quote that it was what "he saw on television"
that influenced Serano's vote. Remind you of this quote from
the novel M/I's
founder wrote back in 1993?
"By the age of five,
virtually all of our citizens are already addicted to it.
Our congressmen and women allow this drug to guide their debates.
You can not go out in public without being exposed to this drug;
virtually none of our citizens can bear to be home without using it.
"When you hear the idea of T.V.
as the most devastating, addictive drug in America, you may
scoff..."
Then again, you
might not scoff, once you stop and look at reality for a little
while. That was written by our founder more than a decade ago,
and it is just as accurate at this very moment.
The vast majority of Americans are
opposed to what has occurred in the Schiavo case - they supposedly
realize that our Constitution was directly attacked by our Congress
and President.
What should be the response of this
majority of Americans is action. They should be calling and
writing the Congresspeople who did the wrong thing in droves,
warning them that they better recant or they will be faced with
challenges in the primaries; they should be scolding their Senators,
only one of whom was needed to impede the process, not one of whom
chose to.
But no, instead it is the minority, the
anti-democratic, pro-theocratic dictatorship Republicans who are
making those threats. From
CNN:
Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry,
who is acting as a spokesman for Schiavo's parents, warned
Republican lawmakers Thursday there would be "hell to pay," if she
dies and said, "There will be people that might just lose their jobs
when this is over."
And people wonder why these
America-and-democracy-hating nutcases have managed to wrestle
control of our entire government. Heck, they snap their
fingers and half the Congress and even the President jump out of
bed, end their vacations, and rush across the country to discard the
Constitution on their behalf.
Many of you, our loyal M/I readers,
realize how serious what happened is. How many of you have
called or e-mailed the Congresspeople who did this or who didn't
show up, or your Senators, warning them like Mr. Terry did above?
It's not too late.
Here is the vote from the
House website so you can see who are the guilty reps, and all
Senators are guilty as not one stood up to impede the process.
The problem is, people think they are
doing something by sitting and watching their TV's and getting angry
about it. Our Congress just conspired with the President to
attempt to discard our Constitution and turn us into a theocratic
dictatorship. Watching TV coverage of it and being upset is
not a sane response; it is a non-response to a direly important
situation.
Remember the quotes: Rep. Robert
Wexler, D-Fla: "Approving the bill would "undermine over 200
years of jurisprudence..." (from
CNN); Rep. Jim Davis, D-Fla.:
"If we do not draw the line in the sand today, there is no limit to
what democratic principles this Congress will ignore or what
liberties they may trample on next." (from
ABC News); "The implications of this move are astonishing. Just
think about it. Anytime Congress doesn't like the result in a
particular case, it could swoop in and call a "do-over," which is
essentially what this legislation represents... no decision in any
state court in the country will be immune from Congressional
second-guessing. It would throw out of whack the entire concept of
separation of powers..." - from
Attorney Andy Cohen via CBS News.
And all that the Moveon's and Democratic
party can do is pretend their own father didn't beat them. The
problem is out there, they say, it is those horrible Republicans,
not the half of their own party that is just as guilty and without
whose support the bill couldn't have passed.
And, of course, the Republicans who care
about their country were no less pansy-like:
"Another key Republican, Sen. John
Warner of Virginia, indicated opposition to the legislation in the
congressional record but didn't voice it on the floor during debate
Sunday. The Senate passed the legislation under the chamber's
unanimous consent rules." (from
CNN)
"I believe it unwise for the Congress to
take from the state of Florida its constitutional responsibility to
resolve the issues in this case," Warner wrote.
But he didn't let that motivate him to
action in defense of his country.
Note the phrase "unanimous consent
rules" in the first paragraph of the quote, meaning it would have
only taken a single Senator from either party standing in opposition
to stall the process. But there was "unanimous consent."
Sheesh, it must be rough having to lie
for the sake of a party that doesn't even stand up for you.
What exactly are these
Democrat-protecting liars compromising their morals in defense of?
Don't you want to actually purge your party of the pansies and the
frauds so America can turn to you and trust you as the party
actually on the right side of things?
And as angry as America has been about
the coverage on TV, have they shut off their TV's? Have they
e-mailed or called their news sources demanding they cover the 6
American soldiers who died on Saturday alone, give them one
millionth of the coverage they are giving this lifeless woman and
the nutcases who want to hijack her corpus; or the budget, or the
bankruptcy bill - anyone know any details of what was in that yet?
Look people, we, as Moderate
Independents, are the only ones who can defend our nation. We
are the only ones who can say it was half of the Democrats along
with the Republicans who betrayed our nation and need to go.
And only we can come up with an actually
useful action plan to do something about it.
Moveon wants you to sign a petition?
Nice, real powerful. That's worked real well over the past 4
years.
The reality that both parties don't want
you to realize is that in a capitalist society, all of the power is
in the people's hands.
If people stop watching TV, the ratings
collapse as advertising revenue disappears. If people get off
their butts and put up alternative candidates in the primaries, they
can knock you out of office - only a handful of people vote in the
primaries to begin with, which is why minority-backed nutjobs like
Randall Terry actually frighten even the most powerful politicians,
right on up to the President; they know even a handful of active
people can change everything.
And if people even slightly change their
lifestyle or habits, they can topple the most mighty.
If you love your country, if you want to
defend your Constitution, if you are not going to be one of the
drones to sit around and pretend nothing has happened here because
that is what TV is telling you in order to get you to just sit back
down, shut up, and keep eating and watching yourself to death, then
here is a simple course of action that if a reasonable number of
Americans got behind, would send a lightening bolt down the spine of
those who dared try to turn our country into a theocratic
dictatorship:
1) Boycott TV during sweeps week.
This is when advertising revenue is set.
Yes, Americans are so addicted to TV they could not possibly just
give it up in general, but avoiding this one week as a protest
against the absurd coverage given to the Schiavo nonsense would
truly decimate profits in a blink. This is called effective
action that is really and practically possible.
2) Write e-mails to every
Democratic Congressperson who voted for this legislation.
You can write one letter and copy and
paste it again and again. Just borrow Randall Terry's words
from above: there will be "hell to pay" and "There will be
people that might just lose their jobs when this is over." If
you make clear that unless they publicly repent for not defending
our Constitution you will support a challenger in their primary,
they will truly shudder - trust me, Congresspeople don't usually get
many e-mails, especially heated, threatening ones like this.
If even a handful of people did this it would chill them to the
bone.
Note that you can, of course, write all
the Democrats who didn't show up or the Republicans who voted for
this as well, but to be practical that is a huge load and, honestly,
you won't get through to these Republicans; they simply need to be
replaced. A nice touch would be to write the 5 Republicans who
were the bravest of all, bucking their insane party leadership to
stand in defense of our nation.
You can see who did what at the
House website and then go
here to get contact info.
3) Immediately stop drinking - and
get everyone you can contact to stop drinking - Coke and Pepsi.
What did Coke and Pepsi do?
Nothing in this case. But people have to realize that even the
most powerful, biggest corporations are at our mercy. Coke and
Pepsi both provide products that not only do we not ever need to
drink again, but that we would all be better off if we never drank
again. They have conspired to make us more obese by increasing
the size of the beverages they sell, replacing 12 oz. cans in
machines with 20 oz. bottles - that gives you twice as many calories
and takes about twice as much money. We all let them do this
with their worthless, tooth-eroding, belly-expanding sugar water
crap.
This, again, is something easy and
practical that can be done. If America simply stopped drinking
Coke and Pepsi for any amount of time, it would be instant shock to
the companies - they are dependent on our continued constant
consumption.
The power in any capitalist society is
in the consumers' hands. We are only victims as long as we
choose to be.
So there you are. You have been
furious for a week, bombarded by both sides with lies and calls to
remain impotently inactive, wondering what you can do in defense of
the nation and Constitution you hold dear.
Now you know, and now it is time to act.
Take the above actions and spread this
information to everyone you can. Any sizeable response to
these three tasks will truly rock the guilty to the core.
"Hell to pay?" You bet your America-loving behind.
