For those of you familiar with The Moderate Independent, it is no
surprise. Once again, we were years ahead of everyone else,
reporting the news long before it happens.
It was November of 2004. The
election had just passed. And even as the issues regarding the
e-voting and vote in Ohio were unfolding, our media writer, Betsy R.
Vasquez, issued this warning to
the nation:
They are the lynchpin
of the lying right's climb to power. They exist solely for the sake of
spreading misinformation, flat-out lies, and misrepresenting the opposition.
They exist in loosely cloaked violation of our election laws, acting as
PAC's and 527's but, as they pretend they are something else, taking money
by the horde directly from corporate sponsors.
Since the early 1990's, when Limbaugh led the
charge against decency, honesty, and useful discourse in America, the nation
has become more and more polarized. The Limbaugh clones have
multiplied to the point that they now form the sort of massive propaganda
machine only found in dictatorships like the former Soviet Union or Saddam's
Iraq.
There are two things all Americans can agree on,
regardless of whether you are left, right, or middle on the issues:
our voting process must be unquestionably secure, and there is no place for
a one-side promoting, lie-and-smear propaganda machine in America.
So to begin to fix the problem, we at The
Moderate Independent, along with our loyal readers, are going to launch an
all out frontal assault on a massive but massively vulnerable target:
Disney.
Remember Disney? They were the ones who
refused to allow Miramax, a subsidiary of theirs, to distribute Michael
Moore's film, claiming it was too partisan for them to get involved in -
while in reality they were, and are, operating right-wing lie-and-hate
propaganda radio from coast to coast. (See:

This company that hired Rush Limbaugh as a
commentator for its ESPN network - and, of course, had to fire him not long
thereafter for showing his true hatefully racist nature (see:

- depends on its public image as the non-partisan, sweet, innocent bastion
of family fun, integrity, and kindness. They are the ones who give us
"the happiest place on Earth."
But all the while, they are taking the money you
and your family give them, the money you spend on their movies and
paraphernalia, the money you spend at their theme parks, and indeed, the
money you help them make by watching their Touchstone movies, Pixar movies,
Miramax movies, ABC TV Network, or ESPN. There you are innocently
watching a baseball game on ESPN or a sitcom on ABC and little do you
realize the money you are helping Disney, the owner of all of these
entities, rake in is going to be used to fund the operation of hate-talk,
right-wing radio stations all over the country. From WABC in New York
to KABC in Los Angeles, Disney is using your money to spread lies and
personal attacks, to push one side's agenda while degrading,
misrepresenting, and heinously attacking anyone who does not march lockstep
with President Bush. Yes, sweet little Disney is using its innocent
image and the money they make off of it to fuel the hate-spewing propaganda
machine of the Bush/Limbaugh right.
We think it is time someone pulled the sheet on
Disney, and we are just the outfit to do it.
We then initiated a petition drive to
call on Disney to either stop supporting right-wing propaganda or
face a boycott. While we had a great response from our
readers, we knew Disney would not react unless there was a massive
slew beyond what we alone could muster. And so we called on
bloggers from the left and the middle, on the Democratic Party, and
on liberal think tanks like The Center for America Progress, to get
involved in proactively preventing the sort of nonsense like The
Path to 9/11 that Disney is putting out on a daily basis.
Well, back then, and for the entire two
year period since then, the Democrats, the Center for American
Progress - and it's activist website Think Progress, and, in fact,
the entire blogger and non-blogger world had nothing to say about
Disney's daily right-wing propagandist activities.
No one except us here at M/I, that is.
And so now, as we warned would happen,
just before the next election Disney is using its assets to spread
right-wing lies and attack Democrats. And the Democrats now
want you to take action and join their petition drive.
We at The Moderate Independent are of
the mind that late is better than never. And the reality is
that for some reason no one can see things with the foresight we do.
In fact, even now the Democrats are only taking on this one
miniseries and not the larger problem laid out above by Betsy
involving Disney's daily propagation of right-wing hate and lies.
So thank, Democrats and liberal bloggers,
for at least taking some action. But you might want to start
paying attention of the things we warn about so you are not so far
behind and caught in binds like this just as elections are about to
hit.
And, you might want to take Disney on
about more than just this mini-series. It is part of a
pattern. And America should know about that and reconsider
their patronage accordingly.
In any case, one just has to laugh.
Not at the Democrats, but at the Bush-right. I mean, after six
years in office, having nothing but failure and disaster to show for
their time there, they have nothing left but to still go back more
than half a decade to try and blame Clinton? Clinton?
Six years of having control of the government, and they are still
trying to attack a man who has had no power this millenium?
Ah, the cowardly lunatics that make up
today's Republican Party.
