January 20, 2010 –
Way
back in July of 2008, while the nation was first beginning to think
something might be wrong with the economy, and that the GOP was
about to be done for a good, long time, I wrote, "If you think the Bushies are on their
way out of power, you are not paying attention. They may get a
momentary time out, but make no mistake, they're not going anywhere
far or for long." (see:
The Bush
Administration: THE MOST SUCCESSFUL
ADMINISTRATION IN HISTORY)
I don't think anyone
realizes the dangerous reality that played out yesterday in
Massachusetts.
Since way back during the election, M/I was warning
then-candidate Barack Obama,
To Beat
McCain- Palin, Obama and Biden Need to Start Using the ‘C’-Word.
From the article:
"...for some reason Barack Obama has
declined to do what Ronald Reagan did in making “liberal” a bad word
and go after ‘conservatism.’ And so at the Republican
convention, as speaker after speaker stood up to claim that what’s
happening in Washington is really ‘liberal,’ as Romney asserted, or
when people saw a personality and a story that differed from that of
George W. Bush, all they had to say was, “I like these two better,”
and that freed McCain-Palin from the Bush burden.
Notice the name Romney in there.
Yes, the man from Mass. who helped make the victory last night
possible. And what that paragraph warns about was what played
out last night: Barack Obama has never made the case that it
was the conservative policies of free trade, tax cuts for the
wealthy and businesses, deregulation, etc., that caused the collapse
we are facing. Even worse, he claims everything is just fine,
all that was needed was a little stimulus, give it some more time,
meanwhile he's off to other things (i.e. healthcare). The
nation has never heard that truth, that conservatism is the nation's
problem, but the lies like Romney told at the convention -
essentially that Bush and co. were really "liberal" - are on-air
24/7. And so all that is needed - as was shown last night - is a fresh face,
and all is forgotten.
The Democrats took over every branch of government. Barack was
chosen over Hillary to ensure; to ensure, finally, that an actual
Democrat - not a Republican-lite - would get into office and
actually do things like reverse free trade, the Bush tax cuts,
restore the Fairness Doctrine, fix media rules that have allowed the
right-wing to set up propaganda shop nationwide; to bring about
Paradigm Shift, as Obama promised, pointing out that it was Bush's bankrupting
tax cuts that never brought jobs and instead just ended up being
given as bonuses to CEO's by CEO's; it was free trade that sent our
jobs and money to China, money that we were borrowing to give to
Saudi Arabia for oil, as Obama pointed out frequently; it was
outsourcing; it was a need to allow Americans to dip into their
401(K)s, to focus on Main Street, to make a space race-like push for
alternative energy. Most singularly, it was a promise to focus
on the collapsing economy, not a ridiculous, bankrupting war in
Iraq.
But the second he got in office, Obama became Bush. (see: BARACK BUSH: As Bush Did With Iraq, So Does Obama With
Healthcare) Instead of doing any of the things he
promised, he instead said, "Forget reversing the Bush tax cuts,
forget paradigm shift, forget free trade - What if I just borrow a
trillion dollars - yes, from those same Chinese - and do nothing
else to address the economy? Then, instead, like Bush focused
on the pet project of the far right, the Iraq War, I will focus on
the pet project of the man who helped get me elected, Ted Kennedy."
It cannot be overstated what a massive, massive message last night's
victory was. Not just a GOPer winning in Massachusetts, but
taking the very seat of the man on behalf of whom the nation was
having this health debacle shoved down our throats.
Obama has not explained that tax cuts in fact do not create jobs, and so a Romney protégé
pulled exactly the game Romney did at the Republican Convention last
election. Scott Brown actually ran for office saying he wanted
to pass tax cuts. Really. Tax cuts. The last thing
in the world America needs is more tax cuts, which will just create
a ton more debt, never yielding a job but instead just putting more
money in the pockets of those great CEO's we are all so fond of.
That's what tax cuts do, on the absurd idea that those CEO's will for
some reason choose to hire extra people rather than just hand
themselves bonuses. They never have; they never will; and yet,
since Obama and friends have yet to voice it, America has yet to
hear that reality.
And so a man was elected running on the disastrous platform that got
us into this financial mess. But really, it wasn't about the
policies he promoted.
I have never - never - in my lifetime, heard such fury and feelings
of betrayal by members of a political party as I do from Democrats
at the moment. Whether amazed that, "Guantanamo is still
opened," or, more, more fervently, "He's really not going to do
anything about the economy," the entire nation is just in a
combination of shock and terror - as Obama and the Democrats are
right now. Quite frankly, as I wrote almost a year ago,
Americans are Caught
Between Barack And A Hard Place - Why I Am Considering Running For
Office. On the one side are
the conservatives who have looted the nation, sent all of our jobs
overseas, and stuck all of the money in the hands of a few rich
CEO's, and on the other side are a bunch of clueless, spineless
nothings who talk a good game, but in the end just opt for borrowing
and spending trillion after trillion for things nobody wants and
that don't address any of the real issues we as a nation face.
The nation knows one thing about the current Democratic Party - that
it doesn't matter where they stand, you can bet they won't stand for
what they stand for.
Good for Scott Brown and congratulations. At
the moment, Massachusetts really is a model for America, with the
majority of folk firmly seated in the moderate independent aisle.
It's not about his policies but about his message: if a
little-known Republican can take out the safest of all seats on the
planet, a long-held Kennedy seat in MA, that means the American
people are truly done with party politics. They are ready -
indeed, desperate - for a real change. Obama is not it.
No, Scott Brown isn't it either.
The nation is in collapse, and the Democrats are busy
spending another trillion on health insurance, and the GOP simply
wants to further the same policies with which they destroyed the
nation.
What happened last night should be inconsequential
powerwise. The GOP only had a one seat majority - at times,
not even that, only Cheney's tie-breaking vote - and yet passed
massive policy after massive policy. Now, the Democrats still
maintain an effective nineteen-vote majority. Nineteen votes.
Versus the one vote or none the Republicans had . And yet the
GOP wielded more power with that one or none than the Dems likely
will with nineteen, simply because they are lost, spineless, and
truly without principle.
We, the normal people of America, understand the
message of last night. Stop f'ing around with health care.
Bring our damn jobs back home. Focus on us putting food on our
tables, actually do any of the things with regard to the economy
that you promised. Stop borrowing and spending money.
Unfortunately, expect the Dems to do the exact
opposite, to take this as a call to stand even less strongly for
what they stand for, to do none of the things the nation needs and
that they promised and believe in. Free trade won't be
touched. The Bush tax cuts will remain. The media rules
will not be fixed - and so 24 hours a day, the lies, the endless,
hate-spewing lies will continue to echo uncorrected, and the Dems
will take the blame for the collapse conservatism has caused.
God help us. We need a champion who will
deliver us from conservative-caused collapse. To the rescue,
come the collapse-causing conservatives. Just as expected.
What the Democrats should do is finally, at last,
stand for what they stand for, enunciate what they believe, reverse
free trade, tax cuts, outsourcing, offshoring, deregulation...
We all know there is no chance they will.
The time is here for Moderate Independents to stand
for their nation. I have been accepted to three law schools so
far, part of my plan in preparation for a entre into serving in
public office. Honestly, I don't know if there is time for law
school. The need is immediate. The danger for the nation
is great. And the hole in the American conversation - and
representation - is vast.
Sit back and let's watch the Democrats continue to refuse to be
Democrats, the GOP dive further into Palin/Gingrich-land while
ostracizing their moderates, like Colin Powell. And let's see
if indeed there is time for law school before a run, or if perhaps
it is time to look into beginning to gather signatures...
